Result of the decision
Approval of the import and/or use of the LMO(s) with conditions
- The specification of the exact release site.
- Fertile plant material (Maize kernels) has to be transported and stored in closed and clearly labelled repositories at any time outside the release site or laboratory. The label need to distinctively describe the LMO and it needs to be noted that this maize is not intended for use as food or feed. The plant material has to be separated from non-gm material during the complete process.
- Inspection of release site on unexpected biological traits of the LMO and interplay between LMO and other organisms has to be accomplished weekly during the experimental release.
- Monthly inspection of the surrounding area 10 m of the release site for transgenic Maize volunteers and their removal and disposal.
- After completion of the field trial no maize should be planted on this site for one year. The field side and surrounding areas have to be inspected for transgenic maize volunteers during this year. If there were found volunteers they have to be removed and disposed and the inspection period prolongs for one further year.
- fertility of possibly left plant material must be disrupted
- After completion of the field trial, the release site and the surrounding shelter-crops have to be deeply ploughed under the soil directly after chaff, that there is no remaining plant material on the surface.
